103.9 Voice FM – “the education station” – is a brand new community radio station with a five year license. 103.9 Voice FM studio has been development and is managed by Ram Kalyan Kelly of Unity 101 Community Radio, and is supported by John Ellery. The official launch took place on 26th September 2011 at the Poppadom Express Indian restaurant.
Fred Stanley Chairman of Voice FM Ltd, a not-for profit organisation, said “Voice FM will give those wishing to learn new skills in the Southampton city region the opportunity to make programmes that will raise aspirations, showcase talent, celebrate success, encourage lifelong learning and improve knowledge and understanding of how to enjoy a successful, healthy and happy life”.
Ram Kalyan “Kelly” said “I am delighted to support the second local community radio in our fair city of Southampton. 103.9 Voice FM will have a very different sound to other local radio stations, broadcasting a wide range of music genres for the whole community to enjoy and share”.
The radio studios and the training centre are based at 153 St. Mary’s street, Southampton.
A 30 hour long training course has been developed to enable volunteers to learn all aspects of radio broadcasting. Each module will take two hours covering: Induction, radio concepts, voice skills, presentation skills, interview techniques, knowing and working with your studio equipment, accessing OAS Playout System and Manager, creating a programme playlist and live broadcasting.
103.9 Voice FM is looking for volunteer radio presenters of all ages from the local community, including from schools, colleges, youth clubs, community forums and organisations such as the universities and the NEET group.
