The public is being urged to steer clear of a fire that has broken out in a 12-storey apartment building in central Manchester.
There are 12 fire crews fighting the flames on the ninth floor of the building in Joiner Street, which is inside the city’s Northern Quarter.
Images posted on social media show smoke billowing out of the building, with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service telling people to “keep windows and doors shut if you live nearby.”
The City’s Ambulance Service has a hazard area response unit and six ambulances attending.
There are no reports of any casualties while witnesses outside have reported that the worst of the visible flames appeared to have been doused.
