Glorious Victorious!

The site has had a change about this year! But the weather is shining, everyone's excited and the bands have already started behind me as I'm sat in press writing this!

This years headliners are Queens of The Stone Age on Friday, Vampire Weekend on the Saturday and the almighty Kings of Leon closing out the Sunday night on the Common Stage!

Friday traditionally being the quieter day of the festival, but it did not disappoint!
Hot wax opened the main stage for the weekend, to a rather rapturous round of applause, and rightly so! A band I hadn't heard of before, but would happily go see again!

For the last few years now, Victorious have been opening the whole day on the Friday rather than the original set up of just the Friday evening and it seems to be going well!
Friday night was closed by the absolute legends that are Queens of The Stone Age. Josh Homme and the guys absolutely blew everyone away with a set that encompassed 99% of the big hits. The amount of QOTSA t shirts and battle jackets which were seen on the Friday gave a definite hint as to who people were there to see!

If you've not been to Victorious before, it comprises of a site which spans a large proportion of the Southsea Seafront. With stages named after what they're used for usually! For example we have the main stage which is affectionately known as "The Common Stage" after Southsea Common and the second stage which is known as "The Castle Stage", as it's on the field adjacent to Southsea Castle, which during the festival becomes known as "Henry's House" and is home to DJs and party vibes!

Victorious prides itself on being a family friendly festivals and this is evident every year through their family area in the festival site itself. Although I don't have children myself, friends and family who visit with theirs in tow, all rave about how good it is. The fact that 99% of the activities are included in the price and that the children are offered items such as free ice lollies, fruit and smoothies! Alongside the performances on stage from Princesses and roaming interactions with characters such as Bluey!

The main stage headline titans continued over the weekend with Vampire Weekend finishing off the Saturday night party! Smashing out hits like A Punk and giving a nod to the recently passed Prince of Darkness, by covering the classic hit "Crazy Train".

Sunday Night was the finale of the festival with Megastars Kings of Leon closing out the main stage to one of the biggest crowds I've ever seen at Victorious Festival!
Everyone who has been talking about the festival, has been saying how excited they are for this headline set and they were right to be.
A blistering set of hits which started with Supersoaker, straight into The Bucket and a raucous rendition of Sex on Fire, closing the show. Accompanied by deafeningly loud sing along from the crowd!

Although we acknowledge some controversy this years with the situation that arose during the Mary Whallopers set over the weekend, we must recognise what a triumph Victorious festival truly is. Hailing from the original small scale event in the Historic Dockyard, to the large scale weekend event which it now encompasses, Victorious has become a local and national staple. It maintains the roots from which it came, employing so many local people and encouraging people from all over the area to visit. But also stands up amongst the large festivals countywide with a stellar line up every year and great set up!
I cannot wait to see what they have in store for next year, as the festival grows and develops year on year!

Bands statement can be found here - <a data-auth="NotApplicable" data-linkindex="0" href="https://emea01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.instagram.com%2Freel%2FDNsUSU_UFVr%2F%3Figsh%3DZXVvanNmcGdiaXly&data=05%7C02%7C%7C0c6edbb119684cfbe15408ddefda8f15%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C638930444174062078%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=GwNf8E2Mc%2FsaOU1gJRoFv4GxtXP83BeupfBIsXQ1kT8%3D&reserved=0" originalsrc="https://www.instagram.com/reel/DNsUSU_UFVr/?igsh=ZXVvanNmcGdiaXly" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Protected by Outlook: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DNsUSU_UFVr/?igsh=ZXVvanNmcGdiaXly.

Another glorious weekend of metal in a field is done for the year! The annual August pilgrimage to Derbyshire is done!

As always, Bloodstock pulled it out the bag with the line up this year! With Trivium, Machine Head and Gojira headlining the main stage across the weekend alongside incredible bands on the rest of the line up!

Let's sum up some of the best bands of the weekend as well as chatting about the big 3 mainstage headliners!

Friday was headlined by the heavyweight transatlantic powerhouse that is Trivium!

Having just come off the Poisoned Ascendancy tour in May 2025, it was great to see them still on absolutely top form.

Playing a set list of songs that not only spanned their career, they also did fantastic Black Sabbath and Metallica covers! Being joined by Robb Flynn of Machine head for their roaring rendition of "Symptom of the Universe" and then guest spots throughout their set from III from Sleep Token, Ihsan from Emperor and Josh from Malevolence!

Finishing out their set with "The sin and the sentence", amongst a flurry of fireworks. They absolutely set the tone for the rest of the headline bands over the weekend!

Having seen Trivium quite a few times in various settings over the years, I truly believe this is up there as one of their strongest performances and look forward to seeing them again in the future!

My favourite non headline band of Friday who I highly recommend you check out is Compounds! Simon saw these guys going through the heats of metal to the masses this year, and was who got me onto them!

They are an absolutely ferocious group who hail from down South, and are absolutely incredible live!

If you don't know them yet, get to know them!

My favourite song of theirs is "Survive or Die" and I highly recommend you check them out!

Saturday rolled round and it was Machine Head day!

I had been very excited for this headline slot but also for Static X! A band who had evaded me for years! Having had tickets for the tour that was cancelled when Wayne tragically passed away, I had been keen to see them back in the UK!

Machine Head opened with one of my absolute favourite songs of all time - Imperium!

A song from the album "Through the Ashes of Empires", which has always been special to me and a song that will always hold a substantial amount of nostalgia for me!

First time I saw Machine Head was on this tour, and I have very fond memories of it being my first pit too!

A polished set from these absolute metal legends, which included an incredibly touching tribute to their publicist Michelle, who tragically passed away and was a huge part of the family at Bloodstock.

A fantastic set, with a personal favourite being the throwing of beer to Banana man! What a hero!

My favourite non headline band of Saturday, this could've gone to quite a few bands if I'm honest! But I'm gonna stick to my roots here and say Creeper!

Suffice to say, I was surprised when they got announced on the line up and was excited to see what they would bring to the Bloodstock main stage!

Creeper are absolute local heroes for me. Having played at small local venues like The Joiners in Southampton not that long ago, to now playing to huge crowds on the main stage at Bloodstock! It's great to see them getting the recognition they deserve, and the new album is out on Halloween! It's titled "Sanguivore II - Mistress of Death".

Special mention absolutely has to go to Static X though! Headlining the Sophie Lancaster Tent and celebrating 25 years of the seminal album "Wisconsin Death Trip" made for an unbelievable show!

These guys have been a band I've wanted to see for SO many years, and their music has been a soundtrack for my life since I was 15 years old! Suffice to say.... They did not disappoint!

An electric show full of fun, headed up by Xer0, the show was full of energy and hit most of the songs that I have waited so long to hear!

I am crossing everything that someday soon, they do a proper UK tour! Preferably the US tour that they're doing with Mudvayne!

If you're reading this, we would LOVE to have that tour in the UK and Europe! Pretty please!

Sunday rolled round way too fast as it always does festival weekends and it's Gojira headlining day!

The Sunday of a festival is always a sad feeling, cause we know that the weekend of fun is nearly done for another year!

But at least when we are at Bloodstock we know we have a great Sunday line up to look forward to!

The festival was closed this year by French metal royalty Gojira!

This is the band's second time headlining Bloodstock and as always, they have absolutely bought their all! Having previously headlined in 2018, they definitely bought the show they are very known for!

A visual show of fire, Pyro and fun alongside their majestic songs and sense of humour shining through!

A great performance from the French legends!

Final special mention goes to a band who prior to Bloodstock on Sunday... I didn't know much about! But after catching their set by accident... I am absolutely obsessed!

I am talking about the Folk Metal Germans known as Feuerschwanz!

Hearing these guys was by pure accident on a mission across the field, and they quite literally stopped me in my tracks!

Hailing from Bavaria in Germany, and having never played a UK show before. This was their first ever UK performance and they absolutely blew everyone away! Myself included!

There was something very special about Medieval inspired German Metal!

Overall, Bloodstock will always hold a very special place in my heart being the first festival I'd ever been to in the UK!

Next year is already nearly sold out, so if you wanna get yourself to the field get your tickets ASAP!

Eric Walker, the singer-songwriter from Andover has received tremendous support making it to number one on the South Coast music chart with his heartfelt hit ‘Moments’.

Incredibly this is Eric's 5th song to reach number one on the SCMC, breaking the record for the most number ones by a singular artist!

Eric's songs are a real blend of indie and soft rock reimaged into an alternative-pop sound.

The pure versatility of his music is inspired by artists such as KT Tunstall, Swedish House Mafia and Feeder.

His lyrics are intriguing and gripping; mixed with his heartfelt vocals you can't stop listening.

‘Moments’ released in March 2025, is a song that means a lot to Eric and this really comes over when listening.

The song is an ode to moments gone by, pulling on the feeling of reminiscing times and people you used to know.

Holding on to those beautiful, funny, upsetting and exciting memories you now hold with you.

I think that's something most of you reading will be able to relate to I know I can and it's something that Eric captures beautifully in this song.

His Music started in 2016 and his love for making music grew, sparking his first single ‘Hold My Breath’ in 2018 followed by the release of his debut album in May 2022.

The award-winning artist has had international success and opportunities to perform in large festivals around the country.

You can find Eric's music on all major listening platforms.

I'm certain we will be seeing and hearing much more from Eric in the future and we at Voice FM can't wait to see what he does next!

About The South Coast Music Chart And Show

Every Sunday from 4pm Southampton’s Voice FM has the South Coast Music Show with Zinnia Eve and Kristin Collett, and then at 5pm South Coast Music Chart Show with Nathan Randle bringing the best of the region’s music to the airwaves.

Zinnia and Nathan are passionate about the region’s music and put musicians like Eric Walker on the map.

With the public voting for their favourite it gives musicians valuable experience of marketing themselves and encouraging support, as these days just writing great tunes isn’t enough!

You can vote for who you want to see at No.1 by going to our chart page and picking the best from south coast’s top 25 artists.

Upload your Music

Voice FM is passionate about local music, which is why we created the South Coast Music Show and Chart.

If you make music, or you know someone who is good enough to be on the radio, then you can upload your music here. This glorious place is pretty much on my doorstep and has become a well loved favourite over the years with it closing out festival season most years, in absolute style!

Victorious has always been somewhere special to me. Being a Pompey girl, and having this festival in my home town means the world! Where else in the world can you find a festival that's right on the beach and also incorporates a lighthouse/castle into one of their stages!? If you've been to Henry's House, you know exactly what I'm chatting about!

Friday was a full day this year! Exciting! Even though for many, Friday was a working day it didn't stop the crowds coming in thick and fast! There was a lot of hype for Louis Tomlinson playing with young fans holding their spot on the barrier for HOURS before his set. But for me personally, this wasn't who I was most excited for!

The afternoon special guests on Friday were Razorlight bringing a huge hit of 2000s nostalgia, blasting out hits like America and Golden Touch. A very well rounded performance that drew a huge crowd! Would love to see these guys down here again, perhaps for a later evening slot next time?

One of the big pulls for me on Friday was a band who admitted on stage they were worried no one would come see them as they were on the same time as Louis Tomlinson! Lottery Winners! These guys hail from the North but have a lot of ties to the South, particularly Pompey and have played down here a lot. Last time being the Guildhall! Having just come off tours with Nickelback and Avril Lavigne, and with a new album being finalised they were on top form. Their lead singer Thom is hilarious and the band are being tipped as one of the potential supports for the upcoming Oasis reunion shows! A great band with a unbelievable sense of humour.

Friday led us to be treated to essentially a double headliner! Fatboy Slim and Snow Patrol!

I was lucky enough to meet Snow Patrol prior to their set at Victorious, when Simon sat down and interviewed them. Genuinely lovely people and talk of new albums! Exciting stuff! These guys smashed out all of the hits we know and love, with the crowd singing the lyrics to Run so loudly that at one point Gary Lightbody just stood and let us sing them for him! They said on stage how much they enjoyed Victorious, so fingers crossed they'll be back soon! I am very excited to hear what's coming on the new album which is out very soon!

Final act of the Friday for me was Fatboy Slim! Having been a fan for a number of years and remembering back to the infamous shows on Brighton Beach, many moons ago! I was incredibly excited for this set, hoping to hear classics such as "Weapon of choice" and "Praise you". However, although the graphics were stunning with a beautiful nod to local artist My Dog Sighs both with his shirt choice and graphic choice. I have to say I was left a little disappointed by his set. I feel like I have to preface this by saying, it was an outstanding dance music DJ set, but a dance music festival Victorious is not. I would've preferred to hear his own songs rather than songs I didn't know or that weren't his own. Of course, there will be people who absolutely loved it. But I know listening to friends and people stood near us, we were not the only ones who'd been expecting to hear his own songs. Overall, a great fun set, but just not what I was expecting!

Saturday rolled round super quickly as it always does during festival season! I swear festival weekends are always the quickest weekends ever! Saturday was the day of rain at Victorious this year! We were fully anticipating this, having experienced the washout when The Prodigy played a few years ago! Unfortunately. It was absolutely torrential which I think put some people off, as the site was noticeably quieter in the earlier part of the day, but that didn't take away from the incredible atmosphere on site as always!

Cannot talk about Saturday without mentioning the infamous secret special guest set! Last year we had McFly and I joked, months ago, about how it should be Busted this year! Well! As soon as I saw the post saying "There's something major going down on Portsea Island" ... I knew I had every reason to be very excited! I have been a fan of Busted for far longer than I care to remember and despite the torrential weather, they absolutely smashed it! Admitting they arrived a mere minute before their set was due to start, they ran through all the classics including taking everyone back to where it started with "What I go to school for". I have seen these guys before and every time I see them I am transported back to being a teenager the first time round! A fantastic choice for the afternoon slot!

Couldn't talk about Saturday without talking about the local boys Crystal Tides! Having played Victorious numerous times, starting out on the smallest of stages. This was their main stage debut and what a debut it was! These guys are great both on record and live, and whilst on stage announced their biggest hometown show to date! The Box at Portsmouth Guildhall! Which as I write this, is already 70% sold! Absolutely made up for these guys! Good luck on the upcoming tour too!

Aaaaand finally... Fun day Sunday!

I appreciate I am incredibly biased, but Sunday was my favourite day line up wise! Biffy will always be up there as one of my favourite bands. Both live and on record!

Honourable Sunday mentions go out though ....

The Hunna - I have absolutely loved these guys for years. Simon had them in for a live session on Voice FM back in 2016, where they played You and Me acoustic and I have been a fan ever since! They've changed direction a lot since then, but are still an absolute powerhouse band win an incredibly loyal fan base. Really hope these guys are back soon and further up the bill!

The Comedy Tent was particularly busy all weekend and I caught snippets of a few fantastic comedians, but managed to sit (outside the tent cause it was so busy!) and watch Al Murray do his Pub Landlord set. This character he has developed has gone from strength to strength and his crowd work is so quick it's unbelievable. Kudos to the guys behind the comedy tent, it has come so far and is now a big part of the festival pulling in huge titans of the comedy scene! Having the screens and speakers outside was a great decision! Meant I could see and hear what was happening even if I couldn't actually get into the tent!

I could go on about so many bands and artists I saw over the weekend. But I'll end with one final one....

Mon the Biff! I have been a huge fan of these guys for a number of years, having see them come up from playing venues like The Joiners, all the way to headlining Festivals and venues like The O2! There was a huge buzz of excitement on Sunday for this set, with fans having travelled from abroad for this set and a sea of Biffy T shirts being spotted all over the site! My own included! Opening with "The Captain", which was very apt considering the location! The set was a run through of some of their greatest hits with the huge crowd singing back lyrics to pretty much every song at them! With Simon admitting they hadn't played the festival before but were really enjoying it, it would be great to see them back down here soon! The festival was closed with Many of Horror and accompanied by beautiful fireworks! A fitting end to a great Victorious 2024!

As always, Victorious proved itself to be a beautiful festival. A place of kindness, joy and fun. Victorious is a family festival by the seaside that caters to a great variety of music tastes and is enjoyed by people of every age. I cannot wait to see what they come out with for 2025!

Well! It's that time of year again! My favourite weekend in August. The weekend of beards, tattoos and battle jackets! Also known as Bloodstock Open Air!

I've been coming to Bloodstock since it was a much smaller festival back in 2009! The headliners the first year I frequented this beautiful field in Derbyshire being Nightwish, Dimmu Borgir and Opeth!

The festival has come a long way from it's original roots of a one day INDOOR festival in Derby at the Assembly rooms (it was indoors till 2006 I believe!) It has now grown to the 3 day outdoor festival that we all know and love!

The first day of the festival is officially the Friday, but if you're camping you can get on site from the Wednesday! New for this year, they've finally given in and legalised bin jousting! For years, the stayers of Midgard (The party campsite!) have taunted Vicky and the BOA crew with videos of the infamously illegal Bin Jousting! If you're new to Bloodstock or indeed just have no clue what bin jousting is. The clue is absolutely in the name! Two big industrial bins, with a person atop each bin, being ran at each other with the aim of knocking the other person off! These matches have been infamous for injury in the past, with people breaking limbs and all sorts! However! This year, it's legal! There have been specially reinforced and bolstered bins made, and adjudicators have been assigned! You might even catch a member of the Bloodstock team atop a bin! Or even a Spudman if you're lucky!

The arena at Bloodstock has a great set up, alongside he main stage (known at the festival as the Ronnie James Dio stage!) there is the second stage, known as the Sophie stage, in memory of the beautiful Sophie Lancaster who was brutally murdered in 2007 and the festival also do a lot of work with the charity themselves!

This is also accompanied by a few more smaller stages across the arena - The EMP stage and the New Blood stage. The latter being the stage played by bands who have been through the festivals battle of the bands heats!

You will truly find something for everyone at Bloodstock, as if there isn't a band you wanna see. They also have a battle arena and a gaming area! As well as all sorts of other bits going on across the festival site including a gallery which always includes artwork from previous years and beautiful photos!

This year it also includes an incredibly special nod to Lemmy of Motorhead. A mock up of his dressing room, alongside a bust containing his ashes is visible and open for everyone to visit and pay their respects to the beautiful hero . Bloodstock have a long standing and personal history with both Motorhead and Lemmy himself, and it's touching to see him commemorated in such a tasteful and beautiful way and in a way that the fans can be a huge part of for years to come.

If you're lucky enough to nab yourself a VIP ticket, you'll also have access to Serpents Lair. A VIP section just behind the main arena, which also has it's own stage as well as its own camping area with flushing toilets and showers!

We could only do Friday and Saturday this year unfortunately due to some other plans, but this didn't take away from the incredible time that was had!

Friday saw the triumphant official return of Bloodstock for 2024 officially opening with the unmistakable Motorhead air raid siren being heard throughout the festival, signalling the start of the festival!

Some of my personal highlights of Friday (as it would take me forever to tell you about every band I saw, running between stages!)

Hatebreed I haven't seen Hatebreed live for one reason or another in a number of years and I've really missed these guys! They joke about 30 years of Hatebreed and instead of their infamous walls of death like back in the day, they now have the BALL of death! . Watch out if you're at one of their upcoming shows that you don't get taken out by the giant ball! Jamey Jasta was as always, on top form!

Friday night was topped off with the announcements of next years headliners as well as 16 other bands! SPOILER ALERT if you haven't seen already.... Trivium on the Friday night, Machine Head on the Saturday night and Gojira on the Sunday! An obscene trio of headliners! It's no wonder this is selling so quickly already for next year!

Saturday rolled round, and so did the crazy warm weather! Bloodstock is always a weekend of the weather going one way or the other! Either ridiculously hot or an absolute swamp! This year, it was GLORIOUS!

Saturdays highlights (this was a toughie!)

Convey! These guys won their way through Metal to the Masses and won their final round to play the New Blood Stage Saturday! These guys blend nu metal and hardcore seamlessly and for a relatively new band they sound absolutely ridiculous live. Don't let these guys pass you by, they are going to be on that main stage before you know it! They also had a Pikachu get killed during their set! I hope you're doing ok Pikachu!

Combichrist I have loved this band for waaaay too long. I saw a person with a top that read "I've loved combichrist since before they were metal" and I have to say that's a hard relate! They've come a LONG way since the very first album of theirs which was hugely EDM influenced! I've listened to and loved this band since I was 15 years old and somehow they've always evaded me when they toured! These guys absolutely smashed it on the Sophie Lancaster stage, and despite how sweaty it was in the tent. Everyone seemed to agree!

Architects These guys had a hugely mixed response online when they got announced as headliners last year! I for one, have been incredibly excited to see them smash a headline set! N they didn't dissapoint! They drew a huge crowd and sold out the Saturday tickets for the first time in Bloodstock history. These guys are beyond deserving of the headline slot, they absolutely smashed their set with a hefty mix of older songs along with stuff from the newer albums. The touching mention of Tom did also not go amiss with fans, with people chanting his name back at them.

A fantastic headline set from the Brighton boys and I'm excited to see what they get up to next!

Special mention goes out to the lads in Sylosis! We were really looking forward to their set and they unfortunately were hit with huge sound issues which ate up half of their set time! What we did hear though, was fantastic! Hope to see those guys again soon!

Overall, if you've never been to Bloodstock next year is a great start! A festival full of friendly bearded and tattooed folk who all have a shared love of the scene! The organisers always pull amazing line ups out the bag and are all fans themselves.

Highly recommend giving BOA a go if you've never already and I'll see you all next year!

This may have been Downloads 21st year, but this was my first!

I've been to a lot of other festivals of various sizes but I've never been to Download! A fact that, as a huge rock and metal fan always surprises people who know me!

I was quite anxious about going to the festival, as although as I previously mentioned I've been to lots of different festivals. I've been mainly going to middle and smaller size festivals the last couple of years, so wasn't sure what to expect!

I needn't have worried! Download was wonderful!

When we arrived, it was well sign posted and easy to find. A pretty straight drive for us and surprisingly no traffic getting onto site! I am also aware this could be due to our only going for the day though!

We packed for light rain as this is what the multiple weather apps told us to prep for... Instead we were met with torrential rain, hailstones and thunderstorms! A slight deviation from the plan but nothing that the festival themselves can help!

If you've never been to Download before like me, it's got 2 outside main stages which are know as Apex (The main stage) and Opus (The second stage). The main two stages are within walking distance, which little legs like me greatly appreciated and the main stage also has speaker stacks with screens on! I'm reliably informed by Download veteran friends, that this is new and came about from Metallica bringing these last year! A great investment imo! Made it a lot easier to see what was happening and much more enjoyable! If you're short like me, you know the annoyance of hurting your neck trying to see in a big crowd of people!

The Download site took a little getting used to. As the site is split into different areas. Which isn't something I'm used to with other festivals!

The main arena has the two biggest stages and another two stages within tents which is one is known as the Dogtooth stage, which was the site of this year's secret set! Annoyingly this was on the Sunday! Such a shame, as I would've loved to have seen Parkway Drive!

We stuck to the main two biggest stages, as this seemed to be the site of the bands who had made me decide this was gonna be my year to get a ticket and make the drive!

The first band we saw after the torrential morning downpour (so torrential that I had to wring out my actual bag AND it's contents!) was The Hunna!
Having watched these guys come up from headlining small independent venues like The Joiners in Southampton all the way to main stage at Download was something special! They deserved a WAY bigger crowd, and unfortunately the weather meant a lot of people stayed in their tents till it cleared up (temporarily!) in the afternoon! Ryan is an unbelievably charismatic front man with a voice to rival singers of bands way higher up on the bill. Everyone around us seemed to thoroughly enjoy them despite the abysmal weather! Plus they seemed to be having fun, and were grateful for their first time on the main stage at Download!

Next up was Bleed from Within! Unless you've been living under a proverbial rock, you'll have seen these guys are on a stratospheric rise... And they bought a sizable crowd to reflect this! I was wondering what these guys are up to, having seen them posting a video with Romesh Ranganathan and Rob Beckett last week with #RobandRomeshvs tagged. Well! What happened definitely wasn't what I expected!
Unfortunately, their set got cut short quite dramatically due to a technical difficulty at the beginning. So everyone was stood waiting for them to come on and they then came onto stage 20 or so minutes late and could then only play 4 songs! This was then ended with an unexpected 5th song ... Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan coming out and doing a cover of Metallica Enter Sandman with the band! Although saddening that their set got cut short, I'll be interested to see how this plays out on the TV show!

Whilst exploring the site, we caught bits of a few sets on the two main stages including Frank Carter and The Rattlesnakes (I hope he finds his necklace which was stolen!), and Baby Metal! Baby Metal unfortunately got evacuated off the main stage during their set due to the weather! Thunderstorms and hailstones halted their set but they still managed to perform a partial set with a promise they would return!

We had planned on catching some of Slaughter to Prevail, but didn't make it in the end! I have heard good things about their set though!

My main difficulty with the weather being the way it was, means I didn't feel I explored the site as much as I would've liked to! I looked up the map prior to our visit to get an idea of the site layout etc. But when you are faced with torrential rain and your feet sinking into mud it makes you rethink your decisions! Although I am fully appreciative of the fact that the weather cannot be helped, it did unfortunately make for less of a day than if the weather had been good! I feel like, if the weather had been better, I would've explored more of the site including the non music things that the arena and the village had to offer!

Tom Morello smashed out a great Saturday afternoon slot. He ran through the hits from his various creative outlets and had the entire field singing along to Killing in the name. As well as a beautiful tribute to the gone and not forgotten, Chris Cornell.

This was followed by the epic While She Sleeps! These guys headlined Ally Pally towards the end of last year, and having now seen them live... I can see why they sold it out! They are an incredible live band, their set up is tight and their stage presence is strong! They have an upcoming tour later this year and if you've never seen them before or you're on the fence about seeing them I would highly recommend you check them out!
They are as good live, if not better, than they are on record. Well worth catching live!

The last band that myself and my friends caught on the 2nd stage was Pantera! A band of legendary status, who have finally decided to do a reunion after far too many years and the untimely loss of the two brothers in Dime and Vinnie! In my opinion, this was the biggest crowd of the Saturday! The field was absolutely packed out with fans, despite the mud and the weather! Pantera are a band who I myself, and many other people have grown up with but never had a chance to see. Our entire friendship ground was incredibly excited for their set and they didn't disappoint. Phil's vocals are still incredibly crisp even after all these years, and beautiful tributes were made to the brothers throughout the set. They opened with A new level and finished with an encore of F***ing Hostile. A fantastic set which spanned their career and took in all of the best hits! A phenomenal set which was greatly appreciated by everyone there, even if we were sinking ankle deep in mud! It was so worth it!

The headline for the Saturday was Fallout Boy! A band who I've listened to for years, but never had the chance to see live! They bought a huge crowd and were absolutely great live! They rattled through the hits from across their career and made sure they played a big mix of older and newer songs. A set with songs for fans from all eras of the bands vast history!

Overall, having never been to Download before. I absolutely loved it! I feel like my first experience was hampered by the unfortunate British Summer weather, but the way that they dealt with it was swift and professional!

For all of the annoyance about the weather, the site was well set out. There was plenty of food vendors and merch stands to get what you wanted!
My only big gripe with this festival, is the parking. For a festival which has been going so long the parking situation was not ideal!

We were in guest parking and picked up some friends from the drop off and pick up. The drop up and pick up although well stewarded, was far too hectic. They have got the drop off/pick up in the same place as the taxi and coach pick up. This is something which in my opinion could be worked upon for the next festival to improve the logistics of leaving the site!

As someone who has never been to Download before, it's a great festival! A friendly and welcoming festival, where I never once felt out of place and felt welcomed by the alternative community!

I hope next time I come to Download the sun is shining so I can explore more of the site! In fact, one keen-eyed listener to Voice FM has already spotted that this video was filmed in the city.

Archive don’t compromise. Being an Archive fan is not for the safe and predictable; whichever album they hook you in with, the next one is not going to be the same.

One thing you can guarantee is that there are going to be more ‘singles’ in each album than almost any other band for one good reason: there are at least four or five songwriters in the band.

And as we are all aware, most bands have one songwriter, and within each album they deliver maybe two great songs, and the rest is a compromise between quantity and quality.

Formed in 1994 as a trip-hop act and releasing Londinium as their first album, Archive have built a massive following in Europe; in fact, Dave Pen’s first gig for Archive was in Greece in front of 100,000 people.

This current tour had to be postponed last year due to co-founder Darius Keeler contracting colon cancer.

However, with Keeler recovering and the album re-worked into a ‘Deluxe Edition, maybe this time around UK radio, the music press and British public will get behind the UK’s most interesting band and ask the question: "What is it the Europeans see in Archive that the UK misses?"

Below is a great example of Archive Live, recorded at the Transbordeur, Lyon, in 2012. Sell out a headline show at one of Southampton’s most iconic venues of course. Rob Clamp sold out Joiners show – maybe not a phrase Clamp himself would have expected but sell it out he did and the room is buzzing long before he takes to the stage. We get support from Sugar Bang who are all youth and harmonies and the self-deprecating but clearly born for these kind of stages Calum Lintott. They both do a fine job and by the time Lintott leaves us with the fabulous It’s Easy To Do the Unexpected we are ready for Rob.

I was fortunate to spend some time talking music with Rob the week before this show. We talked about the difficulties for those musicians bubbling under the surface of wider recognition, where there is so much talent but taking the step from part time talented performer to professional career is so elusive and the lifestyle and pressures of performing can be so hard. When the chance to do something big and exciting like a Joiners show comes along you have to make it count.

Clamp takes to the stage to a loud appreciative roar. This is his crowd. If he is nervous it doesn’t show – maybe the ever-present gum is being chewed extra hard, but it is hard to tell – and he launches into The Riverside, a gorgeous opener that bounces along with Rob seated at the front flanked by his four-piece band. But it’s when Clamp is unshackled from the chair that the set comes alive as he clearly relishes the space and band interplay that solo shows don’t give you. The Tinder Song and Breathe showcase Clamp’s ear for a melody and both work beautifully in the packed Joiners. Even the inexplicably popular Phil Collins song Another Day In Paradise is transformed into an exciting romp that has the place jumping. Some new songs are given an outing and we can rest assured that they will fit seamlessly into Clamps already strong catalogue.

The main set ends with All Quiet On The Western Front, another song perfectly suited to the extra musicians and this environment. Of course, there is an encore, how could there not be. We get a couple of extra songs including a cover of You’re Gorgeous by Babybird sung to the rafters by everyone present. Such a joyous gig cannot be a one off and as the final notes of the last song ring out Clamp reminds us to get tickets for his next big gig at the Heartbreakers in April. On this evidence you would be foolish to miss it.

https://www.voicefmradio.co.uk/community/blogs/music/post/how-many-radio-plays-do-scm-chart-songs-get/

<img alt="" src="https://mmo.aiircdn.com/754/63c444427174a.jpg" style="float: right;
