Fareham racing driver sets racing records in season opener

A racing driver from Fareham has set multiple records in his first race of 2026.

45-year-old Paul Fullick is a driver for Team BRIT, the world’s only competitive team of all-disabled racing drivers and competed in his first ever GT3 race last weekend, making history with an all-out win.

Paul, and team mate Jamie Falvey raced in round 1 of the GT Cup on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th at Donington Park.

On Saturday the pair won the race outright and on Sunday they finished 2nd.

This success means they are the first ever disabled pairing to win a GT3 race outright, the first ever amateur pairing to win a GT3 race outright and the first pairing to ever win a GT3 race on what was the debut GT3 race for both.

Since its formation in 2015, Team BRIT has been dedicated to revolutionising disability motorsport, breaking down barriers and proving that nothing is impossible. Over the past decade, the team has progressed from entry-level racing to competing on the international stage, it has won a national championship and taken championship class wins, and supported disabled teams overseas, while developing cutting-edge hand control technology that has opened doors for disabled drivers worldwide.

Paul is a lower leg amputee following a motorbike crash. He has been with the team since 2022, and has progressed rapidly from driving a BMW 118i, to competing in a McLaren 570S GT4 this year.

Paul said: We went into our debut round of the GT Cup not really knowing where we stood performance-wise. We’d worked incredibly hard over the off-season to prepare with the BMW M4 GT3, but nothing quite prepares you for that first time heading out onto the circuit.

“After qualifying, we started race 1 from P2 on the grid. Jamie made an incredible move into turn 1 to take the lead, and from there he drove brilliantly to hold it throughout his stint, handing over to me with a strong gap. The car came in and the crew delivered a perfect pit stop—every bit of preparation showed in that moment. Every movement, every decision was spot on.

“There are a few records in there – something we’re incredibly proud of, but more than anything, the feeling of winning our first ever GT3 race was surreal in the most amazing way. Everyone in the team has been working towards this for 10 years, and I can’t think of a better way to reward that determination and hard work.

“Race 2 on Sunday was a completely different challenge with changeable conditions throughout. Somehow though, the tarmac gods were on our side again, and we managed to bring the car home P2 overall.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the team, my teammate, and everyone who worked so hard to get us here. The hard work is only just beginning, but we can hold our heads high—we came here to win, and we did exactly that.”

Jamie and Paul race again at Snetterton on the 16th and 17th May.

Peter Langton's new podcast is a-coming!!

You might recognise him from his work for Surround Sport and the podcast of the same name. Well, he is now host of Pete's Take, which delves into disability life and issues surround disabled people. He has also started up a new podcast, which will be delivered into the show on one given Tuesday of each month, promoting the many disabilities we have in our society. Every podcast episode will be up on one Tuesday each month, and will appear at 4pm.

Click below to watch the introduction of the new show.

This coming Tuesday (23rd January) will be promo'ing the first podcast episode, which is based around Scottish Boccia athlete Tyler McLelland. His disability is of a rare condition called arthrogryposis, meaning he has multiple joint contractures (the range of motion of a joint is limited) or stiffness. It's a interesting listen so do make sure you tune in for the preview on Tuesday between 3pm and 4pm, and after the show finishes, the entire episode will automatically pop up on YouTube, under the Podcast tab on the Voice FM channel at 4 o'clock.
