Men sought after 87-year-old killed in attack

Police are searching for two men in connection with the death of an 87-year-old man, who died after he was beaten to the ground by robbers raiding his home.

Arthur Gumbley was left for dead and had his jewellery stolen in a vicious late-night attack at his home in Sutton Coldfield, near Birmingham.

He later died in hospital on 12 December following the attack on 21 November.

Photographs of two men have since been issued by Staffordshire Police in connection to the incident.

The images are of Jimmy Michael Connors, 28, and Tom Joseph Ward, 17.

Mr Connors is described as being 5ft 5in tall, of average build and speaks with an Irish accent. Mr Ward, who sometimes stay in Stoke-on-Trent, is described being 5ft 8in tall, of average build and also speaks with an Irish accent.

Detective Inspector Dan Ison said: “Both men have links throughout the country and are known to frequent the London, Birmingham, Stoke-on-Trent and Yorkshire areas.

“It is imperative they are caught as soon as possible and help from the public is needed to track them down.”

Police have urged the public not to approach the men.
