Wage War are back and aggressive as hell! 2019’s ‘Pressure’ was less aggressive than previous offerings from the Floridian Metalcore outfit, but it appears Wage War, who were mid album tour cycle when ‘the rona’ came are pretty miffed about being foisted off the road.
New single Surrounded harks back to Deadweight and Blueprints era Wage War, albeit it with beautiful production and a soaring chorus.
The drums juggernaut relentlessly for 3 and a half minutes only calming down for cheeky synth interludes that elevate the whole song to an instant classic. Wage War have always been solid melodically, and on Surrounded it is no different, the utilisation of melodic guitars coupled with the hectic drumming meshes perfectly with Britons screams and Cody’s Cleans.
Surrounded will satisfy both the old and new fans managing to sound both more poppy and more brutal than ever before, whilst being better musically, but also raw and dangerous, it’s an impressive piece of work that shows an Amity Affliction talent for making brutally brilliant metalcore and not alienating any member of their audience!
When Wage War return to a post Covid world, expect the mother of all pits at gigs and festivals combined when the opening notes of this absolute belter hit, this is an excellent start to their new album cycle, Wage War are doing just that, Waging War, and this time they’re going nuclear. - - Review by Djamel Makhlou
