Voice FM and Communities Against Cancer - Working together to increase understanding of Cancer

Today is World Cancer Day, and to mark it we are excited to be launching a new

partnership with Communities against Cancer, a campaign to increase understanding about the disease, look at the services that are supporting and treating people, hear from people living with and surviving cancer, and celebrating the successes.

‘It’s fantastic to be partnering with Voice FM to deliver important cancer messages. We know the earlier someone is diagnosed with cancer, the better the chances are for successful treatment and survival. So we’re delighted that Voice FM is joining us in starting conversations, asking questions and dispelling some cancer myths as part of the Communities Against Cancer project.’ Says Claire Vincent, the Communities Against Cancer Co-ordinator

Cancer touches us all. We all know someone - friends, family, parents, grandparents, and even children and teenagers who have contracted cancer. The treatments available are improving all the time, and so are survival rates. It doesn't need to be something we all fear, or that we don't talk about because we don't really understand it.

With the project, funded by Wessex Cancer Alliance, Communities against Cancer the Wessex Cancer Trust &Voice FM will be providing the information to help everyone understand cancer. We will be encouraging you to take up the opportunities to get screened, check out any concerns early, and telling you the things that you can do to reduce your risks of cancer.

“Community radio is about reaching and involving local people. Cancer is something that touches everyone in some way, and if we can help raise awareness among our listeners and community, tell peoples’ stories, encourage screening, and promote healthy lifestyles, then we are up for it. We are very excited to be launching this year long partnership with Communities against Cancer on World Cancer Day.” – Charlie Hislop – Chair of Voice FM
