Two vehicles have been involved in a “serious accident” on the airfield at Heathrow Airport.

Emergency services are at the scene of the incident, which the airport has said involved two members of staff, and some passengers have been forced to leave their planes.

Delays to a number of flights are also being reported by people on the tarmac and at their gates, despite the airport tweeting that the collision was “not expected to cause any impact on journeys today”.

A spokesman for the airport said: “We are dealing with a serious accident involving two vehicles on the airfield.

“We are working closely with the emergency services and updates will follow.
