Eyewitnesses reportedly describe how the 19-year-old woman became trapped under a fence near the Missoula nightclub.
Police are investigating the death of a university student outside a nightclub in Durham.
The 19-year-old woman died following an incident near the Missoula nightclub in Walkergate at around 11.55pm on Wednesday.
Eyewitnesses described how she became trapped under a fence as students queued to get into the club, the Northern Echo reported.
“The circumstances surrounding her death are unclear at this time,” a Durham Constabulary spokesman said.
Missoula holds what it claims is Durham’s biggest student night on Wednesdays.
It is in the popular Walkergate area in the city centre, where there are a host of bars and restaurants.
Officers said they will release more details later.
