This Weeks Movie Releases – 8th February

A good few movies to speak of this week. Few serious ones and one I’ve been looking forward to for a while.

Lego Movie – Part 2 I am so excited for this movie. The first one was so funny. I wasn’t interested in watching it when it came out but it ended up being one of my fave movies of the year. This is obviously the sequel to the original Lego Movie with Emmet. Although this time everything isn’t quite so awesome. All the heroes of Bricksburg go on an action packed adventure to save their beloved city from the Lego Duplo from the planet sistar.  Also out this week is the much anticipated Alita Battle Angel, the latest movie from James Cameron. Alita is a cyborg who awakens with no memory of who she is and in a world that she doesn’t recognise. It’s a sci-fi adventure with many twists and turns to find out who she is and uncover her unique abilities. A little bit more serious is If Beale Street Could Talk,  based on the best selling novel by James Baldwin this movie is about the relationship between Tish and Fonny. Set in 1970s Harlem pregnant Tish is faced with bringing up her baby alone when Fonny is falsely accused of rape and sent to prison. Tish and her family race to clear his name before the baby arrives. It’s a story about love persisting in the face of racism and injustice..

Also out this week but on limited release Boy Erased starring Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe as a devout Baptist couple struggling to accept that their son is gay.  It’s the true story of Jared who is struggling with the choice to be who he is and live his life happily but without his family or attend a conversion camp to rid him of his sexuality, All is True Kenneth Branagh directs and stars in this movie about William Shakespeare. It doesn’t say if this is a true account of what happened but this follows Shakespeare after his Globe theatre burnt down and he returned to his family in Stratford. He has to mend broken relationships with his wife and daughters and examine his own feelings whilst doing it, uncovering some secrets and lies in the process.
