£550k needed for treatment
On Voice FM’s “Your Green Breakfast,” host Xan Phillips interviews Alicia Rickman about her nearly three-year-old daughter, Betty-Rose, who was diagnosed at 21 months with stage four high-risk neuroblastoma and has undergone intensive chemotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy, spending much of her life in hospital.
Mum Alicia explains neuroblastoma as a fast-metastasizing nervous system cancer often starting in the adrenal glands, notes Betty’s rapid initial deterioration and improvement with chemo, and says Betty is now considered terminal in the UK with treatment aimed at stability rather than cure.
The family has found an 8–10 month chemo- and immunotherapy-based program at Sant Joan de Déu Children’s Hospital in Barcelona that may help, costing about £520,000, and they are fundraising via JustGiving and GoFundMe, having reached £71,283, boosted by Betty’s viral “Baking with Betty” videos and community support.
