“Sticks and Stones” expresses her journey and aims to find a donor.
On Southampton’s Voice FM's Your Green Breakfast, Xan Phillips interviewed Evie, a 16-year-old singer, music lover and textile artist who has the ultra-rare condition AHUS, leaving her on dialysis, medication and frequent hospital visits and in need of a kidney donor.
Evie, who is autistic and has ADHD, says living with the condition is exhausting, with constant tiredness and strict fluid limits affecting even simple foods like soup.
She explains she wrote her first non-school song, “Sticks and Stones,” quickly with little revision, as a way to express her journey and help find a donor.
Amy from the charity George’s Rockstars describes how hospital-based music therapy support helped the song happen and how sharing it can raise awareness of living donation.
Evie’s mum Sally outlines the confidential donor process via the transplant coordinator at Guy’s and St Thomas’ in London, including an initial health form and careful screening to ensure donor safety. If you want to donate a kidney please email Amy.shipperley2@nhs.net
