If you were lucky enough to see Kraftwerk here in Southampton back in 1981, we would love to hear your memories..
Voice FM's electronic music show, 'Sine Waves On Sunday', is planning a special episode on the iconic German band Kraftwerk this May to coincide with their first UK shows in nearly a decade.
Kraftwerk are often described as the electronic equivalent of the Beatles for their influence on modern music production. The band will be playing Bournemouth International Centre on Tuesday 2nd June, followed by three gigs at London's Royal Albert Hall - but the one and only time that Kraftwerk visited Southampton was 45 years ago - on June 26, 1981, a few weeks after releasing arguably their most beloved and prescient album, 'Computer World'. They played at the Mayflower Theatre, back when it was still called the Gaumont Theatre. Live recordings from this tour depict a band at the peak of their musical powers - but as yet, no specific recordings have surfaced online of the Southampton gig.
Did you, or someone you know, see Kraftwerk live in Southampton? Do you have any memories you could share with us as a voicenote to be played during 'Sine Waves On Sunday' on May 31st? Do you, perhaps, even know of any recordings that may exist of Kraftwerk's Southampton gig and that we could broadcast excerpts of?
If the answer to any of these questions is 'YES', we would love to hear from you. Leave a comment below, or reach out personally to 'Sine Waves' host Max Williams on Instagram at @realmcorp...
