Arriving at Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre from 8 September, they describe it as a play with music—not a tribute—featuring a live band, 36 classic songs including “Folsom Prison,” and a deeply told love story made with the involvement and blessing of the couple’s son, John Carter Cash.
Grant and Bianco discuss their personal connections to Cash and the Carter legacy, highlighting June’s fame, song-writing and family role in country music’s roots.
The show promises romance, conflict, humour and scandal—both were in relationships when they fell in love, June faced divorce stigma, and Johnny proposed over 30 times—spanning their lives from the 1930s to the 1990s.
