Southampton City Council is inviting residents to take part in Trees for Life 2026, a special annual event that gives families and loved ones the opportunity to plant a tree in celebration of life, remembrance and community.
Taking place later this year, Trees for Life offers residents the chance to create a lasting tribute to someone special, whether that's marking the birth of a child or remembering a loved one. Each tree planted contributes to Southampton's growing urban forest while creating a meaningful personal legacy for generations to come.
The event forms part of the Council's commitment to enhancing the city's green spaces and supporting its Green City ambitions. Every tree planted helps improve biodiversity, increase resilience to climate change and create a greener, healthier Southampton for residents and visitors alike.
Councillor John Savage, Cabinet Member for Green City and Net Zero, said: "Trees for Life is one of Southampton's most meaningful community events. It gives residents the opportunity to celebrate the people who matter most to them while making a positive contribution to our city's environment."
"Every tree planted helps us build a greener future for Southampton. As we continue working towards our ambition of increasing tree cover across the city, initiatives such as Trees for Life play an important role in supporting biodiversity, tackling climate change and enhancing the green spaces that residents value so highly."
Participants will receive a commemorative certificate to mark the occasion, creating a lasting reminder of their contribution to both their loved ones' memory and Southampton's natural environment.
Registration for Trees for Life is free and open now, with residents encouraged to book their place early.
