1990 Gazza's Tears Newspaper Fundraiser
An epic piece of World Cup memorabilia could be yours as Xan Phillips, Station Manager at Voice FM, announces a fundraising raffle to support a studio refresh and equipment upgrade.
The prize is a copy of the Daily Mirror dated July 5, 1990, featuring Paul Gascoigne’s tears during England’s World Cup semi-final against Germany, when he received a yellow card that would have ruled him out of a final and England later lost on penalties.
Raffle tickets start at £2 via voicefmradio.co.uk/donate, with proceeds going toward renovating the studios, bringing in new equipment, and training more presenters.
Voice FM has trained over 120 people in the past four years and aims to continue building local broadcasting skills while providing programming for Southampton.
Closing date is the World Cup Final Sunday 19th July 2026 and the winner will be drawn after 8am during Your Green Breakfast with Xan Phillips on Monday 20th July
