On Sunday 22 February, Voice FM’s electronic music show, ‘Sine Waves On Sunday’, presents a world-exclusive interview with Berlin-based ambient duo, Sun Electric.
‘We make music here and there (…) we let things happen…’
Tom Thiel and Max Loderbauer from Sun Electric discuss their formation in the late 1980s, parties alongside the recently dismantled Berlin Wall, working with the Orb and ground-breaking live albums. The centrepiece of the interview is a sneak preview of Sun Electric’s first new album in nearly 20 years, which saw the duo working with a vintage synthesizer from the 1960s, known as the Subharchord, as an antidote to today’s oversaturation of modern electronic music.
Presenter Max Williams says: ‘Sun Electric are a quietly influential band who I have known and loved for nearly a decade now, ever since I started digging down the rabbit hole that is electronic music. They may not be a household name, but their music is exactly the sort of trippy, beautiful and soothing electronica that deserves an hour-long profile. When I heard that the band were releasing a new album, I had to get in touch with them to find out more, and they kindly shared some wonderful stories and insights into how electronic music has evolved over the past half-century.’
Max’s interview with Sun Electric will be broadcast exclusively on Voice FM on Sunday 22 February at 3PM GMT. It will then be available to stream and download for two weeks at: https://www.voicefmradio.co.uk/on-air/shows/sine-waves-on-sunday-with-max-williams/
Max Williams studied Music at the University of Southampton whilst joining Voice FM Radio in 2022. Since then he has hosted ‘Sine Waves On Sunday’, a weekly music show inspired by his enthusiasm for weird bleepy bloopy noises. In real life Max divides his time between BBC Radio 3's Presentation department and his local Tesco, and he also makes his own electronic music as ‘M-Corp’ and ‘Samuel Dross’. He is the proud owner of a Roland synth... although he has yet to figure out how the step sequencer works.
Sun Electric’s new album, ‘Episodes’, is out Friday 27 February and available to pre-order now from De:tuned Records:
