In this conversation on Your Green Breakfast with Xan Phillips, you can hear Stuart Shaw's passion for reducing waste spurred the creation of Robert Rose Carpentry.

The idea began when he observed the significant amount of perfectly good wood from his old family scaffolding business being sent to landfill or burnt once it was deemed unsafe for construction sites.

He saw this as a "waste" and was determined to find a "better way."

Stuart's company takes this "throwaway-able" scaffolding wood, which can be warped and split, and transforms it through processes like cutting, sanding, and filling imperfections.

He estimates they can save 90-95% of the wood from being wasted.

While the initial success came from selling custom-made desks during the lockdown, the company now offers a variety of products, all custom-made to customer specifications (size, colour, legs, etc.).

Adjustable Room Dividers: A popular item that uses tension to fit between the floor and ceiling, requiring no permanent installation, making it ideal for renters.

Gaming Tables: These feature a removable top that converts the piece into a dining table, allowing games (like Dungeons and Dragons) to be paused and stored underneath.
