Southampton Parks Up for Green Flag Glory!

Southampton is making a record-breaking bid for park recognition, with four additional parks nominated for the coveted Green Flag Award! This brings the total number of nominated parks in the city to 12, potentially setting a new record for Southampton.

The newly nominated parks are:

Miller's Pond: A Local Nature Reserve with diverse landscapes, including woodland and open grassland.
Weston Shore: A Community Award-winning waterfront location with stunning Solent views.
Mansel Park: A large open space offering various amenities and a result of successful community collaboration.
Cedar Lodge Park: A fully enclosed park with mature trees, playgrounds, and picnic areas, perfect for families and dog walkers.

These parks join the eight previously awarded Green Flag parks in Southampton, solidifying the city's commitment to providing high-quality green spaces for residents.

The Green Flag Award recognizes well-managed parks based on strict criteria:

Welcoming atmosphere, Safety and security, Maintenance and cleanliness, Environmental responsibility, Biodiversity and heritage preservation
Community involvement, Effective marketing and communication

Southampton's parks have impressed the Green Flag judges, who commended the diverse facilities and historical significance of Central Parks, recently awarded Grade II listed status.*

Cllr Eammon Keogh, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, expressed his delight:

"This is a fantastic achievement for Southampton's parks, showcasing their vital role as community hubs for relaxation, exercise, and connection. The Green Flag nominations are a testament to the hard work of our staff and volunteers who dedicate themselves to maintaining these thriving green spaces."

The results of the Green Flag Award nominations will be announced in July 2024. Stay tuned to see if Southampton sets a new record for park recognition!
