Zakariya Mahamed, a talented athlete studying at Solent University, Southampton, will represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the European Athletics Championships in Rome this week!
The Championships bring together Europe's best athletes, and Zak, a Sports Management student, is certainly on his way to greatness. He impressed by winning the 2023 Great South Run in record time.
Zak is one of three Britons in the 10,000m race. He says: "I'm proud to represent my country. This is a big step thanks to Solent University's support."
Zak's brother, Mahamed Mahamed, is also a successful runner competing in the 2024 Olympics. Both brothers have benefitted from Solent's support.
Solent lecturer Jon Cooper says: "We're thrilled for Zak and will be cheering him on in Rome. Solent's Sport Scholarship programme and Athletics Club have helped him reach this level."
